FOUR EYES

Makeup can be so boring, and i'm a real bore in my day-in-day-out routine of it.  I ran across the image of Lindsey Wixson a few days ago on tumblr, was really interested in the idea of a shaped shadow on the eye, and tried it out.
There is definitely something interesting in the 3-dimensionality of the eye and how the shadow is not really just a rectangle- I liked how it looked completely different when your eyes were closed vs. wide open it would almost look normal.
In my test i tried a bit of color, but to my dismay.  Maybe for night but even in a dark green the idea was too heavy of an eye for me. May try out in a super saturated hue- let me know if you give it a try and what color works best for you!

I ran across this dress one day as I was browsing salvation. It was misplaced among all the other clothes and at first glance it was the ugliest of things but as i circled around the rest of the racks i couldn't help but come back. It's one of those "it's kinda so ugly that it works" type of things.

I would like to pattern from it to make a simple solid mesh dress- although i can only imagine how annoying sewing stretchy, thin mesh material would be. It's downside in wearing is that it stretches out so easy- especially in the sleeves.  I would accessorize this with tons of gold bangles and cuffs but as I'm sort of living in two places at the moment I don't have hardly any jewelry with me.

BOLD FLORAL

As you may notice, my posting has been a little non-existent these past couple weeks and it's been killing me!  I've been swamped with end of the school year projects and organizing plans and events for my summer.
Yesterday I had to be to my first class at 8:30, so I was up working on homework I hadn't done by 6:30 (I'm a morning person, for the most part). I'd showered right before zonking out for the night and woke up to the weirdest and most awkward, yet limp and not-wanting-to-do-anything-else hair.  So of course I decided it'd be a good idea to trim my bangs, something that's been needing done for months now.  Needless to say I did this at 7am.  The results were far from fabulous and I was running around my house  feeling more awkward than usual and with this tragedy now (literally) on my shoulders, I could not even focus on what to wear.  To salvage the day I put on one of my favorite outfits I put together when nothing else seems to work-

MINT- A CONDITION

This has been my go-to Saturday afternoon outfit recently, so comfy but i still feel fabulous. I have been obsessive with mint lately- I wasn't even aware of it until this week when I told a friend I was going to dye jeans mint- as I sat there wearing a mint green sweater and nails in the same shade.  I even had a mint chocolate cliff bar that day and had a girl make me smell a mint chocolate cigarette last night.

 The bracelet/cuff was the simplest DIY ever- just that plastic canvas stuff you weave yarn through, cut to size and "stitched" up at the seam and knotted.  I got mine at hobby lobby-where they had multiple colors and just the clear version of the plastic.  I plan on trying some of the actual weaving stuff to embellish other accessories.

PHOTOSHOOT

I have been busy busy with photography assignments, but thankfully got to turn one into a more fashion kind of shoot with my friend Chloe, so I thought I'd share. She always has the most amazing thrift finds, I don't even know how she does it.

COPPER

so, I come to you somewhat empty-handed for the time being.  I've been obsessively transfixed by images of ombre tights lately and decided...i should DIY that and save a few bucks.  The results don't seem to be looking so hot (while still in the drying stage of course but I've little faith, unfortunately.

I did however try out a trendy little thing by means of makeup today.  I've seen a lot of really copper-colored eyeshadows reaching all the way up to the brows and thought I'd give it a test run today.  I used the reddish tone I use frequently with purple shades but mixed it with a lighter tangerine color. I extended it from the inner corner of the eye to beginning of brow but tried to not make it too stark of line, then wing from outer corner of eye to end of brow.

  Verdict?

I'm a yes on this look.  For me, I do the same routine on my face almost everyday so it was a fresh feeling and just made me feel like a bad mama jama.  I would like a little more metallic look so I may search for something with lots of shimmer next go around.

INSPIRED DIY

If you happen to follow the beautiful blog Love Aesthetics by Ivania Carpio you may notice some similarities to my post right away!  Her blog is one I have avidly followed forever now.  We seem to share a love for clear acrylics and metal and her diys have always amazed me, so here I've done her recent plexiglas belt with a slight variation.  I had some strips of clear plastic (from really cheap poster frames that i had cut down in size for an exhibition).  I had no clue what I was going to do with them, but magically a few weeks later I saw her post and had to do it!  

 

For my version:

-1 strip clear acrylic aprrox 1.5 in. wide (this seems easy and more comfortable) i would just do some         searching...i found something similar at hobby lobby in the more "architecture" oriented section

- snap clasp

- nail or screw with a head larger than the diameter of the clasp openings

- pliers/tongs

- stovetop (something to heat up the nail)

- exacto knife

-super glue or epoxy

The whole process took me less than five minutes, baring in mind I already had my strip of plastic cut to length. Mark on the acrylic where you want to put the holes where the clasp will connect in- mine were close to both ends about 1/4" to the edge and centered. Heat up the head of the nail while holding it over a flame until hot.  Immediately press it onto the marked spots and if your plastic is as thin as mine it only needs once to go all the way through.  make sure the hook end of the clasp can easily fit in the hole.  Now you will need to make a slit with an exacto knife from one of the holes out to the edge (this is so that you can get the "loop" side of the hook in- then i superglued mine shut.  I would recommend not cutting a slit and using jump rings, easier and cleaner!
